Bruce Petty
Bruce Petty, the Outdoor Activities Manager at BCA, has worked in the Outdoor Industry for over 20 years. Prior to this, Bruce served in the Royal Army Veterinary Corps as a specialist dog handler and trainer searching for weapons and explosives.
After a six year engagement, Bruce left and joined the Scottish Prison Service as a prison officer in Edinburgh. During this time, Bruce gained his initial qualifications in outdoor education and began freelancing before going full-time and working for Outward Bound as an instructor and later a Senior Instructor in Cumbria.
To achieve aspirations of becoming a Centre Manager, Bruce left the outdoor industry and returned to the world of dogs, supporting study for a management qualification by working at Hearing Dogs for Deaf People in Saunderton as a Deputy Manager. Once qualified, Bruce returned to the outdoor industry, working for Kingswood Learning and Leisure Ltd as a Centre Manager at Peak Venture in Yorkshire, before moving south to work as Head of Centre at a London based charity's outdoor education centre near Amersham.
Bruce is a member of the Association of Head of Outdoor Education Centres, Adventure Activities Industry Advisory Committee, the Mountain Leader Training Association and the Institute of Outdoor Learning. His spare time is taken up with mountaineering, climbing, canoeing, other outdoor sports and spending time with his partner and two dogs.
