Overview

The Paddlesport Star Award is designed to provide a framework for anyone who would like to begin, improve or just enjoy being out on the water.  The award progresses from a paddlers first session, working through core competencies and skills leading to who knows where maybe even an Olympic Champion, the options are endless.  At Hall Place OEC we can help you with those first steps with a range of training and assessment opportunities, both locally and further afield.  The Paddlepower award is designed for even younger people, the exciting approach to the sport and learner focussed training aims to provide access to facilities, utilise professional and skilled instructors whose focus is to give a positive experience and to encourage a safe, fun learning environment:

Core aims for both Paddlesports and Paddlepower are to:

  • Encourage more people to come into and stay in the sport.
  • Provide progression and reward achievement in a wide range of topics.
  • Show all aspects of the sport, both competitive and adventurous.
  • Provide a flexible structure for delivery and development.   
UKCC BCU National Governing Body Awards

BCU One Star is a flat water award that demonstrates an individual has basic boat control and foundation skills.  The one star can be taken in any kind of paddlesport craft. (e.g. sit on top, slalom C2, polo boat, sea kayak, racing canoe etc.)
Duration: 8 hours contact time.
Assessment: If the candidate is at the required standard during the course we can arrange for the assessment to take place at the end of the training with no additional cost.

BCU Two Star is an improvement award that helps paddlers develop fundamental paddlesport skills on flat water.  The emphasis is on gaining a breadth of experience, creating the desired movement of the boat and developing an understanding into how to paddle, boat and water interact.
Duration: 16 hours contact time.
Assessment: The assessment will be organised separate from the training course.

BCU Three Star White Water Kayak (Training) is a two day course on flat and moving water to assess existing skills, river knowledge and to develop personal ability and confidence.  At the end of these two days you will either receive an action plan and time frame for future training with the aim of achieving your 3 Star or be put forward for your 3 Star assessment.
Assessment: The assessment will be organised separate from the training course. 

Paddlepower

Paddlepower is an exciting scheme designed to meet the needs of young people, Hall Place Staff excel in meeting these needs and providing a memorable time and an introduction to the sport.

The scheme is split into four progressive levels based on 24 topics which can be grouped into:
  • safety awareness
  • paddling skills
  • experiences
  • supporting knowledge.
The award is the equivalent to a One Star award.
